5 Smart Ways to Treat Your T-Zone Right

Not everyone has a “T-Zone,” but those with combination skin know it well: it’s that T-shaped part of the face from the forehead (the horizontal bar of the “T”) straight down the nose to the lips. In this area, people with combination skin notice oily, blemish-filled areas that are different from the drier parts of the skin in the rest of the face. As you may have guessed, the T-Zone requires a different sort of care. Here are some ideas to tackle it.

#1 Cleansing
Clean the T-zone with oil-free products and whatever you do, don’t EVER use soap say the skincare researchers at Kristals Cosmetics. That just dries out your skin by stripping away the oils. Now, while getting rid of oils in an oily area sounds good, soap gets rid of oils a little too well. In fact, it makes the body believe that there’s an oil shortage in that area. How does it respond? By producing more oil—so you get caught in a bad skin cycle. Instead, opt for a gentle cleanser like Cetaphil that you’d use no more than twice a day. You may also supplement this a bit by using a white clay mask on the T-Zone once or twice a week.

#2 Cosmetic Creams
When choosing a cream make sure that the ingredients labeled will hydrate the dry parts of your T zone and remove fat from the area. Make sure that they contain gel, are light and free of oils. After applied, you can use an astringent to regulate the fat in the area.

#3 Makeup
Choose makeup with light textures that adds that matte effect on the face by applying some translucent powder on the T-zone. This will avoid the glare that produces the excess of sebum.

#4 Drink Water
Hydration is very important for the skin, that’s why you should drink at least 8-9 glasses of water every day.

#5 Vaporizing
You can vaporize your face to open the pores. You will need a bowl with hot water and a towel. You will put your face near the water breathing in and out and the towel must go on top of your head covering it the area (be careful not to burn). You should do this two to three times a week. What it does is that your pores and pimples open and it is easier to remove the black heads from the nose and other areas.
